Digital Estate Planning

Digital estate planning has only come into existence in the past year or so.  Until recently, not many people had seriously considered what happens to their economically and sentimentally valuable digital assets, which are all of your online accounts and computer files. From email, to photos, to Facebook, to domain hosting, to PayPal, to e-bills, planning for your digital assets should be an essential component of the whole estate planning procedure.

Today, people have online accounts and computer files that are worth significant money (domain names, blogs) or carry significant sentimental value (email accounts, family photos). These are certainly assets that these people would choose to have passed on to heirs after they’re gone. People also may have certain online accounts that they’d like to have automatically deleted after they’re gone. These are both reasons why someone should consider having an online estate plan for their digital assets.
