Cemeteries

Selecting a Cemetery

Whether you are in charge of making funeral arrangements for a loved one, or you are involved in any part of this planning process, many people would agree that the single most important decision you will face is choosing the “right” cemetery.

Consumers often select a cemetery because it’s close to home, has served the family in the past, or has been recommended by someone they trust.

Funeral Resources can help you find a cemetery near you.

There are many things most people do not think about when selecting a cemetery for burial. Some cemeteries have mausoleums, some allow cemetery monuments or upright headstones, whereas others may have certain restrictions on funeral flowers and other graveside memorials. So, it’s important to ask what the restrictions, additional costs for burial vaults may be and other pertinent information regarding cemetery burial.

Green Burials

There are many people seeking to live a simple and natural life in respect to environment, up to and including their burial. A green burial, or natural burial would ensure that the burial site remains as natural as possible in all respects.

If a natural burial site is something you are interested in, the Green Burial Council has information about green cemeteries which promote the growth of native trees, shrubs and wildflowers.  In these cemeteries, water is not wasted and pesticides and herbicides are not used in attempt to control nature.  Interment of the bodies is done in a bio-degradable casket, shroud, or a favorite blanket.   No embalming fluid or concrete vaults are used.
